Autumn to Do in Zakopane

If it is in the autumn time, you are recommended to spend your time in the regional highland inns. You can find them quite easily in the centre of Zakopane. It is even better to have a live highland band playing while you dine. Try their local food such as their regional appetizers like the oscypek, smoked sheep’s cheese with hot cranberries (it is called moskol). In addition, the potato cake served with garlic butter is delicious too. Some drinks that are popular on a cool autumn evening is the mulled wine. Otherwise, you can opt for the Highland tea which is basically black tea with pure vodka or other spirits.

Colourful time in Autumn

Expect a sunny and colourful time in the mountains during the autumn season. At night it can be frosty, so it may even snow. Keep yourself prepared for any kind of possible weather conditions, equipped yourself with a hand-made woollen hat, gloves, sweater and even an embroidered furry slippers. If you will be in Krakow, Zakopane is a not to be missed. Simply a two hour journey by coach from the Krakow main coach station and you are there.

Taking a short walk

An old church dated 1847 is worth a visit. In ul. Ko?cieliska is its historical cemetery and you can find many interesting tombstones decorated by the local folk artists. Check out the absolutely popular Podhale image of the Sorrowful Christ. Then have a walk through the market at the foot of Guba?ówka. First off, you will see the Oscypek Alley where you can find dozens of stalls selling their local cheeses. Smoked sheep’s cheese called ‘Oscypski’ is the main cheese there and you can also find wooden souvenirs and lots of sheepskin products.

Kasprowy Wierch

If you have not tried the cable car ride, you are also recommended to make a trip to Kasprowy Wierch. It is a mountain that lies on the boundary between the Western and the High Tatras. So you are infact running through Prze??cz Liliowe or better known as Liliowe Pass. Ride in comfort by cable car to the top of Kasprowy Wierch. In the autumn the cable car operates from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.

The lower station is Ku?nice which is just 5 km from the centre of Zakopane. It is easily accessible by taxi or if you prefer a minibus.
