Events and Festivals in the City of Lodz

Lodz is one of the biggest towns in Poland and is a versatile city with beautiful parks, historical buildings, shopping places, many restaurants and cafes. The city is at the same time the greenest city in Poland and the place of culture and fun.

You can visit the town at any time of the year; you will surely catch a festival or event in the city of Lodz.

Apart from this, it might be helpful to know what types of events are being held during the year, so you can easily choose when you are going to travel to Poland.

 

January – New Year’s Day

The authorities of the city of Lodz organize a spectacular party every year with fireworks and famous musicians playing live. The celebrations are held until early in the morning, which after-effects can be seen in the empty streets on New Year’s Day.

February – Tourist Feast

The annual Feast of Tourism is held in the Lodz Expo Hall, which is organized to educate and inform the tourists about the different travel destinations of the world. You can also book future trips, and you learn about numerous Polish and foreign attractions.

March – The World Day of Water

In mid-March, you can enjoy a weekend of World Water Day, which awaits you with visits to the museums, walks and various programs for the entire family.

April – International Animation Film Festival

This is the only film festival focused on animation, amateur or professional film-makers, and the general public can also take part of it. It is a great opportunity to watch new and interesting animated films from around the world.

May – Photo Festival

It is far the largest festivals of this type in Poland. The professional and aspiring photographers presents their works at the Festival of Photography in numerous of topics. The three-week festival offers workshops, auctions and contests. Tickets can be purchased online or at the event.

June – International Festival of Tapestry

It is a popular festival and presents tapestry from all over the world to admire. We can also learn about the history of this craft. You can buy tickets on the at the festival, and usually it can be visited for several months.

July – Corpus Christi

The Corpus Christi is an International celebration, which also means a Roman-Catholic feast after the first Sunday of the Holy Trinity on Thursday.

August – Ascension

The event celebrates the Ascension of the Virgin Mary, and usually includes fun street festivals. The event is held each year on the 15th of June and it is declared a national holiday.

September – Four Culture Festival

This annual event celebrates the Jewish, Russian, Polish and German culture, many artistic and cultural performances are held in various points of the city of Lodz.

October – Media School Festival

The Media School Festival offers an excellent opportunity to watch the works of emerging filmmakers, when 30 different international school students presented their projects.

November – International Festival of Movie Art

This remarkable event is held in late November, and attracts famous directors, producers and the workers of the film industry from around the world, who are fighting for the Golden Frog Award.

December – Christmas Shopping

In December, the city of Lodz (mostly Piotrkowska Street) is beautifully illuminated and decorated, which is fun and festive at the same time. It is a great place for Christmas shopping.
